The late medieval fighting gauntlets we offer here as a pair are quite similar to those from the famous Churburg #13 harness, and are also known as hourglass gauntlets due to their sandglass-like design. The original full plate armour can be seen in the Armoury of the Castle of Churburg (Castel Coira) in South Tyrol, Italy, and is thought to have been made in Milan in the late 14th century (about 1390).
Our Churburg gauntlets are made by hand from steel that is 1 to 1.2 mm thick (slight variations in steel thickness may occur due to the hand manufacturing process). They are elegantly adorned and reinforced with sheet brass across the knuckles, wrist, and lower cuff, just like the original specimens. The inside is lined with plush, sewn-in suede leather gloves and blacked for increased corrosion protection.
These finger gauntlets impress not only with their historically accurate, original appearance, but also with their flexible form that allows for enough movement. The integrated suede gloves, as well as additional thick leather cushions sewn and tacked onto them to keep them from rubbing against the steel plates, assure wearing comfort.
Of course, these completely wearable, articulated plate gauntlets can be used with other medieval knight's armours besides the Churburg. They're best used in late-medieval situations, and they're especially well-suited to portraying a 14th-century European warrior or knight. Please keep in mind that these steel gauntlets are not intended for combat reenactment, but rather for high-end costuming or as a collection / exhibition piece.
