10c Viking Sword with Scabbard, Five lobed pommel | Medieval Swords

10c Viking Sword with Scabbard, Five lobed pommel | Medieval Swords

Based on archeological finds in England, this is a beautiful reproduction of a Viking sword from the 10th century. Isolated groups of Vikings would intermittently descend on the British coastlines in pursuit of easy loot as early as the eighth century. The Scandinavians, on the other hand, changed their tactics in the 9th century and began capturing territory and settling in England. This sword is entirely made by hand. Heat-treated malleable cast iron is used for the guard and the distinctive pommel with five bulges.

The pommel and blade are hand-riveted together. Leather straps adorn the hilt. The spring steel blade is oil-tempered to around 48° Rockwell and features a characteristic fuller that provides tremendous flexibility while also reducing weight. For safety, the blade's edges are dull and the tip is rounded. The leather-wrapped wooden scabbard has a wooden belt loop (maximum belt width 5 cm) as well as a highly ornamented brass chape.
