The official seal, which depicted the Knights Templar in two riding on the same horse, was the most well-known and widely used among them. This emblem, which was perceived as an obvious allusion to sodomy during the time of the allegations and persecutions against the Order, was actually meant to signify the spirit of brotherhood and poverty that had defined the Order since its establishment. Furthermore, it reflected the duplicity inherent both in the character of the Order, monastic and warrior, and in the nature of man, divine to human, on a deeper level.
